Who We Are
Georgia is world famous for its rich folklore traditions. Besides maintaining the cultural traditions of the country, great attention has always been paid to raising the new talents and developing new artists from the age of 6.
Georgian Folk Dance Ensemble SHEVARDENI has been functioning since 1990 in the capital city Tbilisi. It is based at the Youth Palace of the capital. The troupe nurtures young dancers divided in two groups, below and over 16.
Since its establishment the ensemble has participated in a great number of international children folk dance festivals around the world: Netherlands (1993), Hungary (1994), France (1995), Germany (1997), Italy (1998), Turkey (2000, 2003, 2005 and 2008) and many others.
Artistic Director & Choreographer
The Georgian Folk Dance Ensemble SHEVARDENI is managed by a celebrated Georgian choreographer SIMON CHKHAIDZE.
A famous dancer himself, established the dance troupe after completion of his stunning career as a stage performer in Kutaisi and Batumi.
Repertoire
Since its establishment the troupe has performed a great number of dances, out of which the most notable are: GANDAGANA (folk dance from the Adjarian coastline of the Black Sea), MOKHEVURI (folk dance from Georgian highlands), SVANURI (folk dance from the Georgian slopes of the Caucasian Mountains), SHAIRME (folk dance from a gorgeous Pshavi Province of the country), LIRIULI (sentimental folk dance performed by young ladies), KINTOURI (urban folk dance), MTIULURI (folk dance from hilly South of Georgia), ABKHAZURI (folk dance from the Abkhazian coastline of the Black Sea).
International Recognition
The Georgian Folk Dance Ensemble SHEVARDENI has most rewarding international recognition and prides itself with a long line of prizes and awards that have taken their special place in the stunning corner of the troupe.
